This review by Tyson Huia and Dr Jeremy Hapeta explores 17 academic articles on Sport-for-Development programmes for Māori in Aotearoa. Guided by a kaupapa Māori approach, it highlights cultural identity, holistic wellbeing and community engagement as key themes. Findings show programmes work best when led by Māori, grounded in Māori values and supported by strong relationships. Governance challenges, cultural misalignment and systemic barriers remain areas to address in practice, policy and future research.
